Builders Mutual, NER launch partnership to help fight equipment theft

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

News Article Photo A new partnership will let some policy holders register their equipment, which could help track it if it's stolen.

Having farm or construction equipment stolen can have a large effect on a business, although some consumers may have the option of tapping into the benefits of a new partnership.

Builders Mutual Insurance Company recently announced it has joined with the National Equipment Register, allowing policy holders with the former to record heavy equipment information on the latter's online registry. That list is used by members of law enforcement when trying to locate stolen equipment.

Ron Adams, director of risk management with the insurance company, said the agreement should prove to be beneficial to Builders Mutual and its customers.

"It provides a risk management resource for customers who want to take a proactive approach toward preventing job site equipment theft and provides security if a theft does occur," Adams said.

The NER also gave some advice recently regarding keeping construction and farm equipment safe during the Independence Day holiday, when thieves may try to take advantage of deserted work sites. Along with making sure machinery is secure, neighboring companies may want to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.ADNFCR-2034-ID-19866481-ADNFCR
