A Maine farm attraction that features milking operations is looking to expand.
The Raitt Homestead Farm Museum in Maine is looking to expand into the future.
According to a report from Foster's Daily Democrat, Lisa Raitt, a board member for the nonprofit organization that runs the farm, said they are about three years out from enlarging the farm to the point that it will function as a year-round attraction.
"We're going to build the buildings that show each aspect of farming history," Raitt told the paper. "I'm excited. I think it's a very good idea in the area."
The goal is to have each of the buildings feature a different aspect of life in rural areas, which could include the role of farm equipment. Currently the museum features a milk house and organizers would like to add a shingle-making building, blacksmith shop and saw mill.
While the farm in Maine gets a facelift over the next few years, John Deere recently announced it is opening a new museum in Waterloo, Iowa, that will feature the history of the company's farm equipment. It is expected to be opened sometime in 2011.
