USDA announced $64 million in ARRA funding.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the distribution of $66.4 million for 345 community facilities projects in 33 states through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
This is the third wave of ARRA community facilities investments announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"Communities throughout the country are benefiting from the Recovery Act," Vilsack said. "These projects will advance the administration's efforts to jumpstart the economy by creating jobs and economic development opportunities in hundreds of small towns."
The federal government intends to boost jobs in construction and sales of construction equipment to help local economies.
USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities program is providing the funding for the projects announced today. This program helps finance essential community facilities for public use in rural areas.
These facilities include childcare centers, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation. The funds are available to public bodies, nonprofit organizations and recognized Indian tribes.
In addition to the $66.4 million that USDA Rural Development is providing for the projects announced today, recipients have raised $45 million from other sources.
