A Midwest farm bureau is highlighting a book about different pieces of farm equipment.
Recently the Wisconsin Farm Bureau selected a book about farm equipment as 2010 Book of the Year for its Ag in the Classroom program
Authored by Cris Peterson, who is a dairy farmer in the state, Fantastic Farm Machines features 12 pieces of agricultural equipment and the types of tasks they can help farmers complete. In addition to being selected by the bureau, the book has been recognized as a Nebraska Children's Agriculture Book of the Year. It was also received an award from the Ohio Farm Bureau.
Darlene Arneson, who is the classroom coordinator for the Wisconsin Bureau, said that the program's essay contest focuses on farm equipment, which means the book will be another source of information for students' research.
"Fantastic Farm Machines is a perfect addition to our Ag in the Classroom program this year," Arneson said.
The Ag in the Classroom program is a federally-headed effort that was put forward by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1981. According to the USDA, each state is responsible for determining the best way to pursue its agriculture educational needs through the program.
