Cut higher with used tractor after returning from vacation

by James Marcher

This time of year, many people may go on vacation as they take advantage of the fact that their children are out of school.

However, being away from home for a while could leave people with plenty to do once they return from a few weeks of rest and relaxation. In a recent piece for Georgia's Macon Sun News, retired University of Georgia Extension employee Willie Chance gave some tips on how to handle a lawn after an extended stay away.

Some people may find that their grass has grown considerably during the time they were gone. However, mowing it to a desirable height with a used tractor in one pass is not advisable.

"We recommend removing no more than one-third of the height of the grass at any one mowing," Chance wrote. "If you have to remove more than this to get your grass in shape, you may need to mow twice several days apart."

Even people who are staying at home may want to keep the height of their lawn a little taller during the hotter summer months. Doing so can help grasses endure droughts and keep moisture in the groundADNFCR-2034-ID-19914055-ADNFCR
